9:15 a.m. | Pediatric Grand Rounds – Lectures are on a wide range of topics by Washington University faculty and invited speakers. These are attended by many members of the St. Louis pediatric community, including full-time faculty, medical students, house staff, nurses and hospital administrators. Multiple endowed lectureships provide support for the most sought-after pediatric speakers in the world. |

Annual conferences
May | Department of Pediatrics Research Retreat Allows current fellows to present their research projects. Incoming first year fellows learn about the research in the Department of Pediatrics and have the opportunity to meet potential mentors. |

July | Orientation Boot Camp Boot camp is organized by Newborn Medicine faculty for our new fellows. This 2-day training session provides hands-on opportunities to learn or review common and uncommon NICU procedures, ventilation strategies and fundamentals of arranging neonatal transport trips. We regularly collaborate with faculty and fellows from Saint Louis University as part of the boot camp. ECMO Boot Camp ECMO boot camp is organized by ECMO Newborn Medicine faculty for our new fellows. This session provides hands-on and didactic education on fundamentals of the ECMO circuit and the care of infants who require this life-saving therapy. |
Three times per year | Fellows Forum The Department of Pediatrics organizes Fellows Forums, half day sessions that occur three times a year, which bring together all fellows in the department. Fellows receive core lectures on topics including wellness, bioethics, mentorship, grant and manuscript writing, literature searches, providing feedback, and job and salary negotiations. Additional breakout sessions are tailored for fellows pursuing careers as research investigators and clinician educators. |
