Our neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows are key members of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Transport Team, assisting with neonatal transports throughout Missouri, southern Illinois, northern Arkansas and western Kentucky.
Fellows travel with the SLCH transport team via ambulance, helicopter and fixed-wing plane to bring critically-ill infants to the SLCH NICU. Our neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows assist with the transport of extremely preterm infants, infants with major congenital anomalies including congenital heart disease and infants referred for specialized therapies including neuroprotective hypothermia, ECMO, renal replacement therapy and lung transplantation.
These transport experiences are a unique aspect of our fellowship program and often cited by our fellows as one of their favorite aspects of the program, offering opportunities for leadership, autonomy and teamwork.
